About the Artist

Photos La Vie is an online gallery whose sole purpose is to share art and to enter into a visual dialogue with visitors and other artists.

After a long career in opera production, I am happy to be making my own art again. I have a BFA in painting, an MA in fine arts (printmaking), and an MS in scenic design. Currently I am working mainly in photography and sculpture.

All my photos are taken with phone cameras because it is important to me that I retain a closeness to the viewer in terms of equipment and technology. I want the viewer to feel a familiarity with what I have produced and how I have produced it. For the same reason none of my finished photos have photoshopped additions or elements. It is vital to me that everything, outside of basic editing, remains true to the moment. As for my sculptures, they tend to take on a huge concept and then deconstruct and demystify it with a little sense of whimsy to bring it to the viewer with a layperson perspective.

My overall inspiration comes from reframing shared experiences as moments of performance and art. Fundamental human perspectives shape how we process these moments, even if through vastly different lenses, and connect us and make us recognizable to each other. Connecting with these shared experiences is what my art is about and is what bonds me to every person I meet. I want viewers to see themselves in my work and to realize that, on some level, they have already seen what I am presenting. It’s all there, it has always been there, you just have to see it.
